Introducing RENEW project - developing compact wearable device for home use

Hyung-Soon Park

Abstract : The objective of RENEW center is to develop the patient-specific optimized neuro-rehabilitation engineering method based on comprehensive understanding of the human motor function recovery including modeling of neuron, neural network, and musculoskeletal system as well as human motor control strategy and the effect of sensory feedback. This presentation will also introduce our recent development on soft wearable and compact rehabilitation device for home use.

Bio : Hyung-Soon Park received his B.S. in Precision Engineering and Mechatronics, and M.S. and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. From 2004 to 2013, he worked as a research associate & research scientist in Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL, 2004~2009) and staff scientist in National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD, 2009~2013). Since 2013, he is an associate professor of the department of mechanical engineering at KAIST. He has conducted several research projects in the field of rehabilitation engineering including development and evaluation of rehabilitation robots and wearable sensors. He is a director of RENEW center which is for developing novel neuro-rehabilitation engineering methods based on comprehensive understanding of human motor control and neural plasticity.
