Abstract :
For the physical rehabilitation of patients with stroke, we have developed a robotic rehabilitation system installing a brain-machine interface. We have suggested its effective treatment outcomes for various body parts so far. In this seminar, the usefulness of a robot rehabilitation system for fingers equipped with a brain-machine interface was demonstrated, and particularly the generalization process of the behavior was followed neurobiologically to evaluate the performance of the rehabilitation system. The generalization process was precisely monitored by functional MRI and quantitatively described using source localization methods and cortical thickness. In this study, we showed how useful robot rehabilitation therapy combined with brain-machine interface is for finger rehabilitation treatment of stroke patients.
